Expo joins Think.Eat.Drink to reduce eco impact of packaging

Expo aims to improve the sustainability packaging materials
Food packaging company Expo Industries UK has joined the Think.Eat.Drink membership scheme, which provides food and drink businesses with long-term guidance and assessment to boost ethical and responsible production. Expo says the network will also help it connect with organisations to ‘reinforce the message of environmental responsibility and sustainability’ in the industry.
14 November 2013 – Food packaging specialist Expo Industries UK has joined the award-winning Think.Eat.Drink membership scheme to put the company at the forefront of the challenge in meeting environmental, ethical and sustainable challenges.
Expo Industries UK is a member of the successful international group of companies, Expo Industrial Group, operating in the global labelling and packaging markets. The company offers a complete in-house turnkey solution, from concept to production, through to distribution.
Based in Derby, the UK Company provides the group’s marketing, customer service, studio, design and warehousing services. The Group is now in its 21st year of producing merchandising solutions in the apparel and food processing sectors. Products include hangtags, PFL, woven and adhesive labels, printed folding box board cartons, rigid boxes, PET boxes, polyprop cascades, plastic hooks, polybags (both food and non-food grade) and decorative metal boxes.
Think.Eat.Drink (T.E.D) is a unique service helping hospitality and allied businesses of all sizes create, operate and manage their enterprise with minimal impact on the environment.
The organisation has created a membership scheme, believing businesses can be ‘greener’ without compromising or sacrificing profitability or quality. The pioneering scheme provides long-term guidance and continual assessment for members at the vanguard of a revolution in ethical and responsible food and drink.
“It was for these reasons that we have joined,” says Expo Industries UK Sales Director Laura Alcock. “T.E.D is an ideal association for us because we want to link with organisations and people who care about how food service and hospitality markets develop in the future.
“As a major packaging supplier in the UK we’re keen to work with people who can help us reinforce the message of environmental responsibility and sustainability, from sourcing packaging materials, to food presentation packaging, through to moving goods around the country.
“It’s a challenge that we want to meet head-on because food packaging is a big part of our business and we need to work closely with suppliers, customers and peers to safeguard the future, as well as maintain a cutting edge to techniques, materials and supply chain management.
“We have a reputation for being at the forefront of carton packaging, using top quality design, materials and printing techniques, coupled with some of the industry’s fastest turnaround times. The reputation for excellence and skills that the group has built up is the catalyst for rapid expansion into the food and hospitality service markets,” added Laura.
The company strives to reduce the environmental impact of being part of a global operation through the sustainable sourcing of all its materials and using FSC and PEFC accredited suppliers. The continuous development of packaging design reduces the amount of packaging required and wastage.
“A major difference between Expo Industrial Group and its competitors is that the group owns its production sites and can therefore control quality, costs and delivery. That means we can influence and implement change at source, a key factor to working with T.E.D and its membership in the future.”
